Second Surgery Post Op Info

I had my second, and hopefully last, pre-chemo surgery yesterday. Dr. Ortell removed the second level of lymph nodes from my left side which is the current standard of care when there is any cancer cells found in the first level. There isn't a specific number of lymph nodes that are removed, it is more determined by anatomical guidelines (where they are located) than by number. This surgery has been more uncomfortable than the first surgery, but I feel pretty good overall. They did not do any preliminary pathology reports on these nodes, they just wait to get the final results which they will share with us when we see him on the 26th of February.

Dr. Ortell also put my Infusaport in yesteday which saved me from having a third surgery. This item is a small round disc that is placed under my skin so I can have my chemo given through this port, plus they can administer other meds through it and draw blood through it. This little thing can remain in place for extended periods of time and it saves me from having to be poked time and time again.

I am home though so that makes everything better. This round of hospitalization gained me a beautiful blanket from my sisters' friend, Teddy, a beautiful angel, more flowers and cards, and a couple of hats and a wig for later.

Thanks to everyone for their continued love, support and prayers. Hopefully we will have more information sometime next week.

Nothing is as simple as we hope it will be. Jim Horning
